Among the 498 stores first opened in Shanghai in the first half of 2019, 59 percent are restaurants, 32 percent retail stores and 11 percent entertainment service providers. Apart from the obvious reasons such as the large population, higher consumption capability of local residents, and business vibrancy, experts from RET also stressed that the communication proficiency and government efficiency have made Shanghai an ideal launch pad.

Among them is the appointment of two new members of the Independent Police Complaints Council, a long-established watchdog for the city's police force. They are Barrister Paul Lam Ting-kwok, former chairman of the Hong Kong Bar Association, and Helen Yu Lai Ching-ping, a senior civil servant who has held various public offices.

Amazon’s digital assistant Alexa was a central focus last year as well. In September, Amazon introduced a next-generation Echo powered by Alexa, as well as several other new devices. That came just a few months after Amazon debuted a touchscreen version of the smart speaker, the Echo Show.

Among the total contracts, 32 are from Europe, 11 from the Middle East, 10 from Asia-Pacific, seven from the Americas and one from Africa, the company noted.

Amazon’s moves come shortly after Microsoft’s release of Azure Application Insights, a similar application analytics solution, which happened last month during Connect 2016.
